Overview:          To execute Design’s vision of a garment, and compile into technical document.

Responsibilities:  

 

  • Collaborate with Designers, Production Team, and Merchants on product design to provide technical expertise and confirm fit and aesthetic details
  • Evaluate fit problems on live models
  • Create and update technical packs for multiple product categories 
  • Communicate with factories in a timely manner through clear written comments outlining construction changes, workmanship improvements and fit while utilizing illustrator, digital photos, and technical sketches for detailed understanding.
  • Manage sample tracking and fit approvals from Presentation through TOP.  Making sure all deadlines are met including bulk & photo approvals.
  • Accountable for the fit sample process from hand off to TOP for bulk production.
  • Daily organization and upkeep of sample history and technical records. 

 

 

Interpersonal Skills

  • Conduct weekly fittings and manage fit process
  • Strong and clear communication skills with internal and external partners 
  • Self-motivated with a strong ability to self manage and define priorities of the department/ business 
  • Highly organized with ability to manage multiple categories
  • Be a team player, open to work with cross functional and Technical Design team members.
  • Be able to adjust quickly to changes while remaining focused on the company’s business objectives.

 

 

Required qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in fashion design, technical design or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of technical design experience - experience in childrenswear is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Excel , Understanding of  sewing, patterns, garment construction, spec knowledge and technical sketching 
  • Understand of grade principles and apply to specific product by division
  • Knowledge of factory machinery specific to production area (domestic and international)
  • Knowledge of fabrics, construction and washes/ dyeing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of the technical role 
  • Knowledge of men’s wear construction and tailoring.
  • PLM and Karat literate [or similar program skills
  • Understands J.Crew Brand and business objectives
