Manager – Central Procurement and Profit Improvement 


Background :

  • This position is responsible for leading value generation sourcing and profitability improvement initiatives to optimize J.Crew’s non-merchandise spend, with a primary focus on good and services within the Functional business areas.
  • The ideal candidate will possess: 1). 4+ years of experience leading strategic sourcing and operational/value-generating initiatives 2). knowledge and expertise across indirect categories and 3). the strategic, analytical, and interpersonal skills to act as a change agent
  • Excellent analytical skills, communication skills, business acumen, influencing skills, and the ability to work in a team environment are also critical


Key Position Objectives:

  • Responsible for identifying and developing business cases for new cost optimization and profit improvement opportunities
  • Lead cross-functional teams to implement strategic sourcing and profit improvement initiatives
  • Provides category expertise in several categories.  Major categories include all areas of Information Technology such as Hardware, Software, Telecom, Cloud-based solutions, and IT professional services


Position Requirements:

  • Leverage spend analytics and market intelligence to build business cases and should cost models for profit improvement opportunities
  • Execute strategic sourcing projects utilizing best practice sourcing methodology to deliver exceptional total cost value and supply assurance
  • Drive continuous improvement via post project sourcing performance reviews
  • Identify and capture profit improvement opportunities beyond sourcing, such as demand management, process improvements, insource vs. outsource, etc.
  • Gather requirements and specifications from business and category experts to ensure that proposed solutions meet business needs
  • Assess supplier capabilities and identify new sources of supply
  • Develop sourcing strategies based on baseline data, market dynamics and business requirements
  • Manages the planning and launch of RFP events, leveraging eSourcing tools as appropriate
  • Analyze supplier proposals and facilitate fact-based supplier selection process
  • Supports negotiation strategy development and execution
  • Negotiate contract terms and coordinate with Legal to execute contracts
  • Develop a transition plan to a new supplier and support implementation
  • Work with suppliers and key stakeholders to manage supplier performance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders



  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant experience  (e.g., consulting, procurement,  IT, Marketing, General Procurement)
  • Experience with opportunity diagnostic, purchase to pay  (P2P) and procurement transformation, strategic sourcing, commodity management, supplier management, and contract management
  • Ability to lead and influence change in the face of complexity and ambiguity and chart a critical path
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, organization, and project management skills 
  • Ability to drive projects with a sense of urgency and perform in a fast-paced, dynamic organization with time sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of technology applications enabling procurement and strategic sourcing
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent skills in Powerpoint, Word, Excel, and Access required
  • MBA and other relevant degrees/certification (e.g., ISM CPSM or Six Sigma) highly desirable
