Employment & Litigation Paralegal

 

The Employment & Litigation Paralegal will perform delegated legal work and provide related support for the attorneys in the legal department related to litigation and employment matters. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

 

Responsibilities:

Employment Functions

  • Under attorney supervision, drafting, reviewing, and implementation of country specific work contracts, amendments, job transfers, employee communications, and termination documents, including consultation and grievance processes and separation agreements.
  • Facilitate the procurement of foreign visas through document gathering and interface between employees and outside counsel.
  • Assist counsel as requested on U.S. federal and state leave, disability, retirement, discrimination, immigration and wage/hour matters.  Ability to assist on drafting of EEOC position statements and other charge related documentation preferred.
  • Provide support for ongoing labor relations work in the US as well collective bargaining and union matters overseas.

 

Litigation Functions

  • Provide litigation support on employment, commercial, and corporate claims as needed.
  • Assist in preparing and coordinating litigation holds and organizing initial case files.
  • Coordinate the interview of witnesses, taking statements, gathering documents and evidence, creating case investigation notebooks, organizing documents and creating a chronology of facts.
  • Aid attorneys in drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production and requests for admissions and other discovery. 
  • Review subpoenas for customer and employee records served upon the company and its entities to ensure the validity of subpoenas, gather responsive information, and prepare appropriate responses.

 

Other Duties

  • Draft, review and/or proofread various commercial agreements, including NDAs, and identify issues for review and decision by supervising attorney.
  • Assist with gathering data, coordinating and proofreading various corporate and employment documents.
  • Assist with procuring document translations, preparing appropriate reports and memoranda, summarizing key legal and business terms in a chart and tracking and maintaining agreements.
  • Conduct basic legal research as needed and provide results to supervising counsel.
  • Provide any other assistance on special projects as needed by the department from time to time

 

 

Qualifications:

Previous Work and Related Experience and Knowledge (including educational requirements):

  • Bachelor Degree; Paralegal Certificate from an A.B.A. accredited program preferred
  • Minimum five years paralegal experience, preferably in-house
  • Experience and knowledge of legal concepts involved with litigation or employment matters;  the ideal candidate will have exposure to both areas
  • Excellent legal drafting, writing and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Embraces technology, detail-oriented, diligent and flexible
  • Task-oriented with excellent sense of prioritization, highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and to work under pressure.  Able to handle conflicting time demands and focus on task completion with little direction or need for supervisory follow-up.
  • Highest levels of personal integrity and adherence to ethical standards
  • Ability to be present at NY headquarters location on a full-time basis
