Safety Specialist - Lynchburg, VA – eCommerce Distribution Center

 

Overview:

 

The primary responsibility of a Safety Specialist is to provide safety related training to all associates as needed, support the facility’s 5S initiative and maintain OSHA standards at the Lynchburg Distribution Center.

 

Overview:

Direct, develop, and oversee the general health and safety policies and procedures for J. Crew’s Lynchburg, VA ecommerce distribution center.   Work closely with the distribution center and contact center leadership to improve the overall health and safety of J. Crew’s associates.

 

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with site and regional management to ensure  compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and all regulatory standards including but not limited to Hazard communication, lockout/tag out, confined space entry, hearing conservation, machine guarding, ergonomics, PPE, respiratory protection, electrical safety, fall protection, powered industrial equipment (PIE).
  • Accompany all safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk through inspections.
  • Coordinate, administer, and enforce intensive training programs related to industrial, occupational, and environmental safety.
  • Develop curriculum and tools for safety and OHSA training for new-hire orientation.

 

  • Partner with operations to incident investigations, behavior-based safety audits, facility inspections
  • Facilitate safety training to include onboarding of new associates and monthly compliance training
  • Conduct job safety analysis to include existing job functions, process changes or new equipment
  • Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to site and regional management
  • Participate in monthly safety committee meetings and other focus group meetings
  • Track improvement activities in safety database and manage action items to completion
  • Support fire prevention, emergency response and other safety related activities as assigned
  • Develop a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required KPI reporting. Create action plans based on the analysis of collected data to improve overall workplace safety.
  • Present KPI results on a regular basis to senior leadership.
  • Develop emergency evacuation plans and maps.
  • Manage an effective first responder program.
  • Organize and facilitate multi-shift safety committees comprised of associates and leadership with well-established goals.
  • Work with HR and workers’ compensation department to follow high-cost or precedent-setting cases.
  • Work with trainers to manage the powered industrial equipment (PIE) training program.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational environment health and safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years' professional safety experience.
  • 5S training and safety certifications preferred.
  • OSHA training and experience in distribution/warehouse environment is preferred.
  •  Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills with all levels of employees and management.
