The Operational Excellence / IOP Manager acts as the organizational leader of Business Process Improvement and Operational Excellence deployment for the company’s distribution function. Incumbent is a Change Agent responsible for leading the organization into a data driven, team-oriented culture that embraces continuous improvement, and ensures the implementation of such in all business functions across the DC. Works with the leadership to lead and guide all initiatives within the organization and facilitates weekly/monthly & quarterly operational performance reviews of results and benefits achieve. Drives effective slotting and space utilization strategies.


This position reports to the Senior Director of Engineering and Operational Support and operates from our Lynchburg, VA location.



  • Leads change management initiatives with best practice methodology as a framework and requiring substantial re-engineering of current systems and processes.
  • Initiates and oversees business transformation and productivity initiatives in a manner that systematically improves operational execution and delivers superior results to the customer.
  • Utilizes project planning techniques and tools to establish initiatives and actions addressing macro and micro business needs.
  • Works proactively with staff members and other organizational functions to resolve critical issues in a timely manner.
  • Provides direction and structure for business unit, implementing process and management methods to improve return on investment.
  • Monitors business and project activity to assure control of milestones, efficiency gains, and costs. Develops initiatives, measures, controls, and monitors all applicable cost areas, quotes, bid process, sourcing, staffing, and quality.
  • Enhances and/or develops, implements, and enforces policies and procedures of the organization through activities that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of distribution centers.
  • Leads the Inventory and Operations Planning (IOP) effort for the distribution center.
  • Partners with corporate-level merchandising and planning resources to manage inventory and slot pick faces to drive efficiencies.
  • Develops storage strategies to optimize space utilization.
  • Manages a team of profilers to manage location setup and location auditors to track inventory accuracy
  • Travels as required to support projects; manage schedules, and monitor continuous improvement.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8+ years of Lean Process Improvement experience
  • Knowledge of supply chain and DC operations
  • Knowledge of process improvement and lean concepts
  • Experience leading lean transformations
  • Lean professional certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of inventory slotting and space planning

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deliverables
  • Project management, analysis and reporting
  • Ability to present and teach lean concepts and tools to groups
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels within the organization; ability to influence.
